How to Create a Seamless Wedding Day with Photo & Video | The Ray, Delray Beach | Delray Beach Wedding Photographer

If you have the budget to hire both a photo and video team on your wedding day, then chances are, capturing and reliving your wedding day is pretty important to you. And, having worked my fair share of weddings, I’ve had a lot of mixed experiences working with video teams. It’s either a great experience where we work together like choreographed dancers moving around each other seamlessly and both of us are able to get the shots we need. OR it is the complete opposite experience and the video team is constantly in the way, which leaves everyone feeling frustrated and wishing for it to end and no one wants that!!!

But, great news, it doesn’t have to be that way! There are tons of GREAT videographers out there that I highly recommend and love working with any chance I get. So, how can you, as the bride, make sure your photo and video teams can work together? My first and biggest piece of advice is to hire a WEDDING videography team. Emphasis on the wedding. This is very different from your cousin who just happens to own a camera and vlog on the weekend…

I have found that most of the issues I have encountered in the past with video teams is video teams who are inexperienced at shooting weddings. They may be great with a camera and editing, but they don’t know the courtesies and flow of a wedding day, and therefor are in the wrong spot all of the time. When you see your videographer on the opposite side of your photographer, you know you have a problem because we are both in each others shots! No bueno on both ends! To avoid this, ask your videographer if they are experienced with shooting weddings and to see a wedding video from their portfolio. That way, you can rest assured that they have experience on a wedding day.

My next piece of advice, would be to send your photo timeline (that I create for you) to your video team prior to the wedding day so they are on the same page about what is going on. It is scary to even admit, but I’ve shown up to multiple weddings before where the videographer has no clue what is going on and when anything is happening. Take it upon yourself, to share the photo timeline with your other vendors (especially video) so everyone is on the same page and no one is surprised when all of your portraits are done before the ceremony and they had no idea.

And my last piece of advice to make your wedding day run smoothly with both a photo and video team is to have patience with us. In order for both photo and video to get the shots we need, we may ask you to repeat a prompt or pose at different parts of the day, which can get annoying/exhausting after taking photos all day. But, I promise you, it will all be worth it when the only things you have to relive your wedding day are your wedding photos and video. So, have patience and enjoy the moment and everything will go better than you could have even imagined!
