When I finally got the chance to work with this sweet family, it was such a dream!! From the moment we met, we instantly connected and felt comfortable around one another and they were open to all of my photo ideas. But, let’s rewind for a second and talk about all the ups and downs that happened before we actually got the chance to work together…

At the beginning of January 2020 (a few weeks after I moved to California) Delaney found me on Instagram and reached out about taking military homecoming photos for her family when her husband would come home from deployment at the end of March. I was so pumped when I saw her message because not only was military homecomings something that was completely new for me and out of my normal comfort zone, but she was also my first inquiry and client who wanted to book me in California! Talk about relief after moving across the country and stressing about how I would restart my business in Cali!!

Fast forward a little bit, Delaney and I kept in touch throughout her husband, Glenn’s, deployment. We would banter on social media and always keep up with and comment on each other’s posts and I honestly got along with her so well on social media, that I just knew we would get along perfectly in person too. She would send me periodic updates on her husband’s return date and then one day, I received a totally different type of update from her – her husband’s deployment had been extended due to Covid-19. Of course she was super sad that she wouldn’t get to see her hubby for another couple months and he wouldn’t get to see their little baby boy, Bo, who had been growing so fast since Glenn deployed. I was also sad because I was anxious to meet them already and capture the special moment of his homecoming!

As Covid-19 continued to get worse and spread, the restrictions got tighter and eventually Delaney told me that I wouldn’t be allowed at his homecoming due to the new rules on base. So, we were both super disappointed – yet again!! But we were determined to still do photos and capture their little fam finally reunited!

So, once Glenn returned, we picked a date and met up in Joshua Tree and I was able to  capture some beautiful family photos of them. After all the ups and downs and twists and turns that Delaney went through, I was so happy to be able to take these photos for her, Glenn and Bo and I think the end results were totally worth the wait!!

        XOXO, Savannah
